WHY RV GLASS IS ITS OWN KIND OF JOB
An RV windshield is nothing like a car windshield. Class A coaches use two enormous curved panes split by a center post, each one heavy enough to need two techs and a set of oversized vacuum cups just to lift. The glass is bonded into a fiberglass cap rather than a stamped steel pinch weld, so the prep work is different: we inspect the cap for flex, stress cracks, and previous sealant failures before anything comes out, because a coach that has been leaking for a season often has soft spots that need attention first.
Moving a 34-foot motorhome to a shop is also a project in itself — insurance, fuel, a driver, and a bay tall enough to take it. That is exactly why we do RV glass on-site at storage lots in Baltimore County, campgrounds, and driveways across the Baltimore metro. The rig never moves.
SOURCING AND LEAD TIME ON MOTORHOME GLASS
RV glass is almost never a stock item. We need the year, make, model, and clear photos of the center post and gasket to order the right pane — a Winnebago on a Ford F-53 chassis takes different glass than a Tiffin on a Freightliner, even in the same model year. Once the order goes in, expect a few days for delivery, and we schedule the install for the day it lands so the coach is not sitting open.
On travel trailers and campers, side, rear, and entry-door glass is often gasket-set rather than bonded, which is faster and can sometimes be done same week. Either way we leak-test the seal with water before we pack up, because a slow leak in a coach roof line turns into delamination and rot far faster than it would in a car.
