BACK GLASS IS TEMPERED, AND THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING
A windshield is laminated — two layers of glass with a plastic interlayer that holds the pieces together when it breaks. Rear glass is tempered, which is why it does not crack and sit there: it detonates into thousands of blunt cubes across your trunk, back seat, cargo area, and every door jamb and seat rail nearby. That means the job is half glass work and half cleanup, and the cleanup is what separates a decent install from a bad one.
We vacuum the hatch channel, spare tire well, seat tracks, and belt lines before the new glass goes anywhere near the opening. Skip that and the customer finds glass cubes rolling out of the headliner three months later, usually right after they had the car detailed.
DEFROSTER GRIDS, ANTENNAS, AND FACTORY TINT
Most rear windows carry a printed defroster grid, and many carry the radio antenna in the same silver traces. Both connect through small solder tabs at the edge of the glass that have to be transferred to the new pane and tested — we run the defroster and confirm radio reception before we leave, because finding out in December that the grid was never connected is a second appointment nobody wants.
Rear glass is also usually darker than the front from the factory, a tint baked into the glass rather than applied as film. We match the factory shade rather than installing clear glass and adding film, so the vehicle looks stock and your aftermarket tint on the side windows still lines up visually.
FREQUENTLY ASKED
How fast can you replace a rear window?
Once we have the glass in stock (usually same or next day), the on-site install takes about 45–60 minutes plus safe drive-away time.
Will the defroster still work after replacement?
Yes. We reconnect the defroster grid tabs and test them before we leave. If your car has a rear antenna in the glass, we reconnect that too.
Do you clean up the broken glass?
Every job. We vacuum the trunk, hatch area, back seats, and door jambs so you don't find shards weeks later.
